Noah's Ark is virtually the
original divine plan in Western tradition. While not the first chronologically,
it is certainly the most familiar.
The Bible tells us in no uncertain terms that Noah was to build a
boat precisely (L x W x H) 300 x 50 x 30 Hebrew cubits, composed of
three decks.
It is difficult to imagine a perfectly rectangular boat but, again,
are these real or ideal forms? Is this a boat that once saved all of
creation, or is it a type for the earth itself? A ship adrift in the
cosmic sea with measured bounds and a rational framework?
We will see how this ark relates to earlier Babylonian flood stories. |
